It may have been the pivotal city of the Roman Empire and it may be oozing with renaissance art and history, but that’s not all that Rome is about. Constantly voted as one of the most romantic cities in the world, it’s no wonder people flock here year after year to see what all the fuss is about.
With Rome hotels available to suit all budgets, it’s surprising how reasonable your stay in the city can be, leaving you open to appreciate as many, or as few, attractions as you wish to during your trip. Here are three of the highlights to incorporate into your visit.
Ok, so it may be a completely separate sovereign state, but this mysterious city is completely landlocked within Rome and is one of the top visitor attractions, largely due to it being the home of the Pope, who gives an audience on Wednesday’s in St Peter’s Square. Other attractions within the Vatican City that are well worth dropping by are St Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Rooms and the Sistine Chapel.
It’s simply incredible that this massive architectural piece has survived all these years, ever since it was used for gladiatorial fights, animal hunts and chariot races when the Roman Empire had its hands on it.
The Trevi Fountain
Have you heard of the legend that if you throw a coin over your shoulder into a fountain, your wishes will come true? This is the fountain in which to do it. Not only that, but this fabulous example of Baroque architecture is beautiful in its own right.
Incorporate these sights into your trip, not forgetting of course, making some time to sample the delectable cuisine in the city – even if it is just a rich and creamy ice cream from one of the renowned vendors!
